According to reports, Kemmer was driving home after coaching his travel team in a Houston-area tournament when the crash occurred. Authorities say his vehicle left the roadway, struck an electrical pole, and rolled. He was alone in the car and pronounced dead at the scene.
It's a heartbreaking end to a day that started with baseball.
Kemmer had been coaching a 14U travel team, staying connected to the game that defined so much of his life. That's who he was. A player once. A coach later. Always around the game.
Before that, he was a star.
At Clarion Area High School, Kemmer put together a senior season that still stands out, hitting .727 with power and consistency that drew attention well beyond his hometown. He went on to play in college before being drafted by the Astros in 2013.
His professional career lasted seven seasons in the minors, followed by time in Mexico before stepping away from playing in 2021. But he never really left baseball.
Kemmer settled in Texas with his wife, Kourtney Kemmer, raising their two children and continuing to coach young players, passing along the same passion he carried for years, per Explore Jefferson Pa.
That's what makes this one hit harder. He wasn't just remembered for what he did on the field. He was still giving back to it.
