After purchasing the team (formerly known as the Indians) for $323 million in 2000, Dolan went on to become the longest-tenured owner in franchise history.
His son, CEO and chairman/owner, Paul Dolan, released a statement following the news.
"We are saddened by the loss of our Dad, but lucky to have him as part of our lives as long as we did. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who was passionate about his family, work, our community and his love of our local sports teams, including owning the Cleveland Guardians."
Dolan was a northeast Ohio native through and through.
Notably, in 1949 he led greater Cleveland powerhouse high school St. Ignatius to its second city championship in school history, throwing a touchdown as a running back and catching an interception as a defensive back in the 13-0 win.
