Diamondbacks Pitcher Montgomery Booed Off Field: 'Every Time I'm Out There We Lose'

In Wednesday's game vs. the San Francisco Giants, Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Jordan Montgomery gave up six earned runs in two innings of work. Thereupon an array of boos was heard from the crowd as the 31-year-old stepped off the mound.

To point out, this outing was a follow-up to his last pitching performance on May 31, which may have been even worse. In a 10-9 loss vs. the New York Mets, Montgomery gave up eight earned runs off of 10 hits.

Now the eighth-year pitcher currently has a 3-4 record with a 6.41 ERA, 1.71 WHIP.

When viewing his latest outing, Montgomery took full responsibility for ruining the Diamondbacks' current four-game win streak.

"Yeah, you just feel like a piece of crap every day you show up," Montgomery stated postgame. "Team, four-game winning streak and I feel like every time I go out there, we lose. Just got to keep trying to be better."

Arizona has lost two games in the last six, and both of those came off of Montgomery starts. That is to say, the 31-year-old southpaw pitcher may be underperforming from what his current, one-year $25 million dollar, contract says he is worth.

Many cite that the pitcher holding out of spring training in hopes of earning a bigger contract, is why he has gotten off to a bad start.

Nevertheless, there is still hope for Montgomery that he can turn it around, as last season with the Texas Rangers, he had a career-best 2.79 ERA and 1.09 WHIP.

The Diamondbacks currently have a 29-33 record, being ranked fourth in the NL West at 8.5 games back from the Los Angeles Dodgers.
