After a career that once soared to great heights, Drew Pomeranz is looking for another shot in the big leagues — this time with the Seattle Mariners.

According to Aram Leighton of Just Baseball, the 36-year-old left-hander has signed a minor-league deal with Seattle, hoping to find some of the magic that made him an All-Star back in 2016 with the Boston Red Sox.
Pomeranz, who spent parts of 11 seasons with six different teams, was a key piece of the Red Sox's World Series championship in 2018.
However, his MLB postseason run that year was largely spent on the sidelines, as he didn't make any appearances. Still, being a part of that title-winning team helped cement his place in Boston's storied history.
But that feels like a lifetime ago, especially after Pomeranz has struggled to stay healthy in recent seasons.
The veteran pitcher hasn't seen major league action since 2021, when he was with the San Diego Padres. Injuries, most notably two elbow surgeries, have kept him sidelined for much of the past couple of years.
His most recent stints with the Los Angeles Angels, Dodgers, and San Francisco Giants in 2022 and 2023 saw him stuck in the minors, making just eight appearances at Triple-A for the Dodgers, posting a 6.00 ERA.
But now, with the Mariners, Pomeranz will get another opportunity to prove he can still contribute at the highest level. Seattle, a team with an eye on contending in the near future, will be hoping Pomeranz can rediscover the form that made him one of the most feared left-handed relievers in baseball at one point.
If healthy, Pomeranz's experience could be a valuable addition to a Mariners team looking to make some noise in the American League.
