The one-time translator for Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Shohei Ohtani didn't just allegedly steal $17 million from the MLB star, he also sent it to someone who stars on "Real Housewives," according to an ESPN report.
More specifically, interpreter Ippei Mizuhara — employed by Ohtani — has been accused of sending some of the stolen cash to The Real Housewives of Orange County cast member Ryan Boyajian.
Per the New York Post, "Boyajian was the alleged associate who Mizuhara wired money to in order to pay off excessive gambling debts to an alleged California bookmaker."
Mizuhara has pleaded guilty to one count of bank fraud and another count of subscribing to a false tax return, per the Justice Department.
Yeah, this story only gets more bizarre and Ohtani, who hails from Japan, is just the innocent man in the middle.
"Mizuhara allegedly stole nearly $17 million from Ohtani to cover gambling debts, taking the money from Ohtani's bank account without the star's permission or knowledge," the Post wrote.
Meanwhile, Boyajian has said nothing and his attorney suggested it's going to stay that way for now.
"Because there is an active investigation and Ryan is working with the authorities, he can't confirm or deny what is going on," Steven Katzman told ESPN. "He is not a bookmaker or a sub-bookie."
Yeah, well, maybe not. But something weird is sure going on. Something sketchy.
Mizuhara is scheduled to be back in court on May 14 and is facing up to 33 years in prison and fines of surpassing $1 million.
