During the Red Sox's 13-3 blowout victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Sunday afternoon, a fan in the crowd at Progressive Field started heckling Jarren Duran.

And the fan totally crossed the line by allegedly bringing up Duran's past suicide attempt, which the star outfielder opened up about in the past.
Heckling Jarren Duran about his suicide attempt is exactly why men stay silent.

"The fan just said something inappropriate," Duran said after the game. "I'm just happy the security handled it, and the umpires were aware of it and they took care of it for me."
He continued, "When you open yourself like that, you are opening yourself up to the enemies. But I have a good support staff around me: teammates, coaches, and fans that were supporting me, so that was awesome."

The Guardians organization released a statement on this fan misconduct incident:
"We are aware of the situation that took place during today's game between a fan and one of the Red Sox players that violated our fan conduct policy. We recognize the gravity of the behavior at issue here and take very seriously conduct of this nature. We apologize to the Red Sox organization, the player involved, fans in the area and are addressing the situation. We identified the fan in question and will work with Major League Baseball regarding next steps. We strive to provide the best experience to visiting players and fans, and that fell short today."
Duran opened up about his mental health struggles in the past, which the star outfielder said was a result of a particular rough stretch of his career.
"I was already hearing it from fans," Duran said in an episode of The Clubhouse: A Year with the Red Sox (2024). "And what they said to me, [it was like], 'I've told myself 10 times worse in the mirror.' That was a really tough time for me. I didn't even want to be here anymore."
Excerpt from the interview: "I got to a point where I was sitting in my room, I had my rifle and I had a bullet, and I pulled the trigger and the gun clicked, but nothing happened," Duran said. "So, to this day, I think God just didn't let me take my own life because I seriously don't know why it didn't go off. I took it as a sign of, 'I might have to be here for a reason.'" Then he added, "That happened for a reason and, obviously, you're here for a reason, so let's be the way you want to be and play [the way] you want to play and live the way you want to live."
