The MLB team announced that longtime public address announcer Bob Tayek will step away from Progressive Field for at least the first half of the 2026 season as he deals with health challenges.

For many fans, that voice is part of the experience.

Tayek has been behind the mic since the late 1990s, serving as the in-park voice of Cleveland baseball for nearly three decades. From Opening Day introductions to late-inning drama, his delivery has become a constant through generations of change.

The team says the expectation is that he will return once he's back on his feet, which would mark his 27th season in the role.

In the meantime, the Guardians will rotate a group of interim announcers to fill in. Still, anyone who's been to Progressive Field knows it won't quite feel the same.

Tayek's voice has been there for big moments, playoff pushes, and countless summer nights at the ballpark. It's part of the rhythm of the game in Cleveland.

Now, that rhythm pauses.

And across the fanbase, there's one shared feeling: Everyone is rooting for Bob Tayek to get back where he belongs.
