Mariners Call Up Outfielder Dominic Canzone From Minors, Hits Clutch 9th Inning 450-Foot Home Run In Wild Revenge Game Ending Vs. Diamondbacks, Who Answer With Walk-Off Grand Slam

Top of the 9th inning with two outs, the Seattle Mariners were trailing the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-2 and were down to their last chance of the game. In storybook fashion, it was former Diamondbacks outfielder Dominic Canzone (traded to Seattle in 2023) who was at the plate, representing the tying run, with a perfect revenge-narrative opportunity just hours after getting called up from his recent stint in the minors.

As if it couldn't be scripted any better, on the last inning two-out/full-count pitch, Canzone hit a 450-foot bomb (115.9 mph off the bat) that landed near the upper deck at Chase Field, to tie the game 4-4.

To point out, Canzone was just recalled from Triple-A affiliate Tacoma Monday morning, and after being substituted back into a Major League game as a pinch-hitter that same night, he certainly capitalized on this opportunity.

Notably, this was actually the longest home run of the year for the Mariners.

However, with the game still all tied up in the bottom of the 11th inning, Diamondbacks first baseman Josh Naylor was able to answer with a walk-off grand slam, making the final score 8-4.

Naylor's second career grand slam/second career walk-off homer lifted the Diamondbacks (32-34) to victory, while the Mariners remain second in the AL West with a 33-32 record.

As for Canzone, certainly the 27-year-old slugger out of Ohio State has shown he has what it takes to be in the Mariners lineup moving forward.

That is, in 179 at-bats in AAA this season, Canzone has put up 13 home runs, 36 RBI's to go with a .296 batting average, .356 on-base percentage, and .566 Slugging %, while ranking in the 99th percentile with an impressive 115.5 max bat exit velocity.
