Right fielder and designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton suddenly exited during the sixth inning of Friday night's game against the Houston Astros. He ran to third base after JC Escarra hit a single. The replay showed that he had gingerly made his way to third base.

Stanton headed to the dugout with right calf tightness. He did not return as the Yankees went on to win 8-3. His final stat line included one hit with one RBI.

"Hopefully we got ahead of anything serious, but we'll just see where he's at tomorrow," manager Aaron Boone said, adding that Stanton had experienced some discomfort while on second base.

The manager said that the designated hitter doesn't have any tests scheduled on his calf. That could ultimately change in the coming days.

Stanton entered the season dealing with another lingering issue. He had tennis elbow in both arms, which caused him significant discomfort during spring training. At the time, he said that he couldn't open a bottle or a bag of chips.

The 36-year-old expressed his desire to play the full season after only appearing in 77 games last season due to rehab.

This season, Stanton has appeared in 24 games this season. He has three home runs, 14 RBIs, eight runs scored, and one stolen base.

The veteran hitter hasn't been as productive for the Yankees as in recent seasons, but he still contributes significantly in the batting rotation. He has 456 career home runs — 189 for the Yankees — and he has an opportunity to hit 500 before the end of his career.

Stanton is not the only member of the Yankees dealing with an injury. The team also placed pitcher Angel Chivilli on the 15-day injured list due to right shoulder discomfort.
