Julio Urias Avoids Felony Charges In Domestic Violence Case Involving Wife

Former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias has been charged with five misdemeanors in a domestic violence case that allegedly occurred in September, per TMZ Sports. He was arrested on those charges outside of BMO Stadium after an LAFC soccer match.

ESPN was the first to report that Urias is not facing felony charges.

Urias is a free agent and given the latest news, his future in the MLB is fairly murky.

Authorities complete their investigation in the middle of December, turning over their findings to the Los Angeles County DA's office. Per TMZ, the LA County City Attorney has charged Urian with the misdemeanors.

"The ex-Dodgers star is facing one count of spousal battery, two counts of domestic battery involving dating relationship, one count of false imprisonment and one count of assault,' TMZ wrote. "His arraignment is scheduled for early May."

MLB officials are likely to make their own decision about Urias' status, including any potential suspensions. He posted $50,000 bail shortly after his arrest, per reports.

Urias was suspended for 2 games in 2019 as the result of a separate domestic violence case — though that one wasn't prosecuted under the condition he completed a domestic violence counseling program that lasted for nearly a full year.

"If Urias is suspended by MLB this time around, he will be the first player to be suspended twice under the league's domestic violence policy," wrote Noah Camras of SI.com. "Urias is currently a free agent, as his contract with the Dodgers expired after the 2023 season."

Urias, 27, is a lefty and has been in the Dodgers organization since 2016. He finished 11-8 last season with a 4.60 ERA. His best year came in 2020, when he went 20-3 with a 2.96 ERA. He went 17-7 the following season, with a career-best ERA of 2.16, placing third in the C Young voting.

The Dodgers (9-4 through April 8) are off to a fast start and have taken the early lead in the NL West standings.
