The Athletics are dealing with a major injury to Joshua Kuroda-Grauer, who had to undergo emergency surgery on Monday evening.

Kuroda-Grauer exited Monday night's 5-2 win over the Diamondbacks after injuring himself with a foul ball. He hit the ball and sent it directly into his groin. He ruptured a testicle and immediately fell to the ground.
The team tended to Kuroda-Grauer before he ultimately returned to his feet and continued with the at-bat appearance. He hit a single to center field. He then spent the fifth inning back at third base before being replaced in the sixth.

The young Athletics star underwent a successful surgery at St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. The team said that he is resting comfortably while starting his recovery.
He will miss the next few games while spending time on the 10-day Injured List.
That was one of my comments this morning to him," manager Mark Kotsay said, per the team website. "I think he might be the only player in Major League history to (rupture) a testicle, get a hit, then play a half-inning of defense.
"It shows you the fight that this kid has. His desire to be on the field and just the will and want is pretty remarkable."
A New Jersey native, Kuroda-Grauer made his big league debut on June 29. He has appeared in 16 games for the Athletics while delivering a spark as a batter. He has accounted for 25 hits with seven doubles, one home run, and four RBIs.
According to the team, his 25 hits through his first 16 games are tied with Eddie Murphy for the most in team history.
Unfortunately for the Athletics, Kuroda-Grauer will have to spend some time recovering from a ruptured testicle as the team attempts to remain in contention for a spot in the playoffs. The team is currently 43-58 and in fourth place in the AL West.
