Mets Owner May Have Given Away Trade Deadline Plans In Since-Deleted Tweet

New York Mets owner Steve Cohen attempted to inform fans about their favorite team, but like so many others on social media, he may have posted before he thought it through.

In the process, it appears that Cohen gave away the Mets' plans for the MLB trade deadline. Not a crime, but certainly not good for business — or helpful to his top baseball officials.

Per the New York Post, Cohen made it sound on Twitter (now X, or whatever) that the Mets are lining up deals for the trade deadline. Maybe true, but that's not really something you want the guys in uniform thinking, that their team owner is thinking about shipping them off.

Nor does your font office really want to enter the trade deadline sounding desperate.

"Responding to a tweet highlighting a post about potentially blowing up the roster to help future seasons, Cohen allegedly tweeted: 'All in the future, not much we can do until the trade deadline,'" the Post wrote. "Cohen is known for sharing his thoughts on X, both good and bad, and this deleted remark certainly is a notable one for its potential meaning."

For the record, Cohen did tell SNY that he understands the frustration from Mets fans.

"I believe in this team," Cohen said. "I believe in the back of the baseball card. It's way too early to speculate on anything. It's May 16. I expect to make the playoffs. I know the fan base is frustrated, but it's still early. We're still very capable of making the playoffs. I fully expect to make the playoffs."

And yeah, it might take a trade or two to get the Mets to that point.
