MLB Players Vote On Who They Think Is The League's 'Most Overrated'

The player that was voted "most overrated," with 20% of the votes, was Jazz Chisholm. That is to say, many would agree that the Bahamas-born, Miami Marlins outfielder, is an exciting player to watch. Nevertheless, the 26-year-old is more known for his flashy personality rather than his play on the field.

Chisholm was named the cover of MLB The Show '23, after his breakout season in 2021 when he batted .248 with 18 home runs, 53 RBI's, 70 runs, to go along with 23 stolen bases in 124 games.

Ever since then, Chisholm has not batted over .254 and has only appeared in around half of his games during the last four seasons, due to injury.

Next on the list, was Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon, who got around 10% of the votes. Rendon is currently under a 7 year/$245 million dollar contract. That is to say, the Angels have gotten almost nothing in return for what they have been paying for the 34-year-old injury-prone player.

Ever since coming to Anaheim in 2020, Rendon has not appeared in more than 58 games in one season. To point out, in 219 games on the team (across five seasons), Rendon has a .250 batting average with 199 hits, 22 homers, 114 RBIs and 100 runs scored.

Other players on the list include MLB stars that had a few breakout years, but have since underperformed. These names include 2015 AL Rookie of the Year Carlos Correa (2x All-Star 2017, 2021), 2019 AL batting champion Tim Anderson (2x All-Star 2021, 2022), and 2019 NL MVP Cody Bellinger (2x All-Star 2017, 2019).

In regards to being known as overrated, sometimes it is not the player's fault, as the media or organizations hyped them up so much, that their production cannot live up to the expectations. Chisholm and Rendon (60-Day IL) will try to avoid anymore injury setbacks, as they will aspire to improve their on-the-field play, in hopes of reaching their full potential in the near future.
