The Phillies also released an official statement:
"We are numb over the very tragic news about Roy Halladay's untimely death. There are no words to describe the sadness that the entire Phillies family is feeling over the loss of one of the most respected human beings to ever play the game. It is with the heaviest of hearts that we pass along our condolences to Brandy, Ryan, and Braden."
Halladay's ICON A5 light sport aircraft crashed into the Gulf 10 miles west of St. Petersburg at about 1 p.m, according to the Pasco Sheriff's Office. He was an 8-time All-Star with the Phillies and Blue Jays.
His career started in 1998 when he made his first start for the Blue Jays. He would become a two-time Cy Young Award winner in both the years that he led the league in wins (2003 and 2010). He is famously known for pitching a postseason no-hitter in 2010, which made him the second pitcher ever to pitch a no-hitter in the postseason. He also pitched a perfect game earlier that season.
