According to Major League Baseball (MLB), the jersey Ohtani wore during the World Baseball Classic has sold at auction for a staggering $1,500,010. This destroyed the previous record for one of his jersey sales, $249,999 for a game-worn Dodgers jersey from the 2024 season. That particular jersey featured the words "'24 NL MVP" in Ohtani's handwriting.
ESPN reports that this seven-day auction featuring the World Baseball Classic jersey had 298 bids as collectors tried to win the prized item. As a result, this auction shot past the sales price from Ohtani's 2023 WBC jersey ($126,110).
The two-way player represented Japan during this year's World Baseball Classic. He helped the team put on a high-scoring performance while defeating Chinese Taipei 13-0. It was in this game that Ohtani had four at-bat opportunities. He scored three hits, five RBIs, and one run. He hit a Grand Slam during the second inning of the blowout.
Japan's run through the World Baseball Classic ended in the quarterfinals. The team fell to eventual champion Venezuela by a score of 8-5.
Ohtani, a four-time MVP, has long sparked bidding wars during auctions. Many items associated with him have sold for astounding amounts, especially as he has continued producing on the field.
For example, his 50th home run ball in 2024 sold for a whopping $4.39 million to Taiwanese investment firm UC Capital. This particular ball made history as Ohtani established the first 50-50 season in MLB history. This requires a player to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases in the same season.
Additionally, his 2025 Topps Chrome MVP Award Gold MLB Logoman Ohtani card sold for $3 million at auction while his 2025 Topps Chrome dual MVP gold Logoman card sold for $2.16 million. This particular card featured both Ohtani and Aaron Judge.
