Shohei Ohtani’s Updated Shoulder Injury Status, Will Try To Play Rest Of World Series

After sliding into second base during Game 2 of the World Series, Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani appeared to have suffered a serious shoulder injury.

As he attempted to steal second base, Ohtani tried to brace himself with his left arm, and according to reports, the 30-year-old has been diagnosed with a shoulder subluxation.

The good news is that this is not as severe as a full dislocation.

It appears this will not be enough to sideline Ohtani, nevertheless, it's not ideal that the Dodgers' $700 million dollar star will presumably not be 100% for the rest of the World Series vs. the New York Yankees.

In view of the injury, a subluxation is when the upper arm bone, otherwise known as the humerus, partially slips out of the shoulder socket.

According to doctor David Abassi, Ohtani will have to play through the pain, but the medical staff will be able to limit his discomfort.

"So this may include the physical therapist around the clock, anti-inflammatories to try to decrease inflammation, possibly even injections into the shoulder like cortisone to try to decrease pain and allow him to have full range of motion and full strength," Abassi told TMZ.

All in all, it's important to realize there is a high chance of re-injury.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts spoke to reporters and said Ohtani will give it a go.

"If he [Ohtani] feels good enough to go, I see no reason why he wouldn't be in [the lineup]," Roberts said.

To note, considering this is the same surgically repaired left arm that Ohtani had Tommy John surgery on last year, the team will proceed with caution, but will ultimately let him play.

The Dodgers currently lead the Yankees 2-0 in a series that has many eyes focused on the Japanese-born superstar. To emphasize, nearly 30 million viewers in Japan watched the series so far.

Reportedly, 15.9 million people tuned in to watch Game 2 (4-2 Dodgers win), which also featured Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the mound for the Dodgers.

Game 3 will be played in New York on Monday October 28 at 8:08 pm ET. Game 4 will take place Tuesday (10/29) at the same time.
