Former Cincinnati Reds Announcer Thom Brennaman Is Set To Make Broadcasting Comeback Four Years After Homophobic Slur Incident

Some may remember the Cincinnati Reds play-by-play announcer Thom Brennaman, who lost his job after saying a homophobic slur while on air during a game vs. the Kansas City Royals on August 19, 2020.

That is to say, Brennaman will once again be putting on the headset, after a four-year hiatus, as he has been given a chance to call college football games on the CW sports TV network.

In view of the original incident, Brennaman was heard referring to San Francisco as "one of the f** capitals of the world," as he said this without knowing his microphone was turned on.

Then later in the game, he issued an apology, which was ultimately interrupted by a Nick Castellanos home run.

"I don't know if I'm going to be putting on this headset again," Brennaman stated after realizing the consequences of his words would result in him being defeated by "cancel culture."

With this in mind, the CW network is going to give Brennaman another shot behind the mic, as the network's president, Dennis Miller, believes in second chances.

The former Reds broadcaster (2007-2020) told The Athletic, "There are no words to describe how grateful I am that they're rolling the dice. They don't have to do this."

Reportedly, Brennaman, who is eager to get back to work, will make his official comeback on Aug. 31 for the Oregon State vs. Idaho State football game.
