The former Chicago White Sox star announced the news during a conference call with reporters. He showed the emotions of the moment, and he reflected upon what the sport meant to his life.
He also shared how his life has changed being able to be home with his family this season.
"I know I came to the ballpark every day ready to compete, just ready to play for the logo that's on the front of that jersey, and that's what I did," Anderson explained.
"Nobody knows what I sacrificed and what the body felt (like) every day, what I was leaving at home from my kids to my wife, through some of the decisions I made. I still kept going, and I had my moments where it bothered me.
Thanks for the memories, No. 7.

"But I couldn't show it, and it got to a point where it started showing out loud, and I couldn't control it. It was just one of those moments where the time is now where I can enjoy life.
"I'm kind of happier, waking up and being able to be around my kids and really living a real life. Because life is bigger than trying to make people happier with a bat and a ball, you know what I mean?"
The 17th overall pick in 2013, Anderson made his MLB debut for the White Sox in 2016. He continued playing for the team through the 2023 season while delivering big moments in his at-bat appearances.
Anderson won the American League batting title in 2019 while leading MLB with a .335 average. led the league in 2020 with 45 runs scored. He earned All-Star honors in both 2021 and 2022.
The Alabama native also delivered a historic moment during the inaugural Field of Dreams game in 2021. He stepped up to the plate after the Yankees scored four runs in the ninth inning.
Anderson hit a walk-off two-run homer into the corner and secured the 8-7 win for the White Sox.
Unfortunately for the slugger, injuries derailed his career. He dealt with a left hand injury in 2022 and a knee sprain in 2023. After that, he never played at the same level. He closed out his career with one season with the Marlins (2024) and one with the Angels (2025).
