A scary moment occurred when in the Angels-Athletics game when, in the bottom of the ninth inning, home plate umpire Paul Emmel was struck in the head with a loose bat, causing him to buckle over with a bleeding skull.
Angels Jefry Marte lost control of his bat on a strike, hitting Emmel over the head.

The rest of the umpire crew were short-handed for the remainder of the game and Emmel was taken to the hospital for stitches.
Thankfully the injury just requires stitches and nothing more. Just looking at the play, you could understand if things were far more serious.
