Major League Baseball announced the news on Feb. 7. A cause of death was not provided by the league. Britney Gore, the late MLB player's wife, posted on social media that he had died following complications from a routine surgery.
"The Dodgers express their sorrow over the sudden passing of Terrance Gore, a member of our 2020 World Series champions. We send our condolences to his loved ones," the Dodgers said on Feb. 7.
Gore landed in the league as a 20th-round pick of the Kansas City Royals in the 2011 MLB Draft. The 5-foot-7-inch and 160-pound speedster did not appear in a game for the team until the 2014 season, and he did not get his first hit until 2018. However, the team used him as a designated runner.

He appeared in 112 games over his career and only tallied 16 hits, but he stole 48 bases in 58 attempts. He added five more steals over 11 postseason games while helping multiple teams reach the World Series.
This includes the Royals in both 2014 and 2015. The Giants defeated the Royals 4-3 in the 2014 World Series, but the Royals defeated the Mets 4-1 in the World Series in 2015. This marked the team's first championship in 30 years.
"We are heartbroken from the loss of Terrance Gore, and send our love to his family and loved ones," the Royals wrote on X on Feb. 7.
Gore went on to win his second ring with the Los Angeles Dodgers during the 2020 season. He also had one plate appearance with the Atlanta Braves during the 2021 season. The Braves went on to win the World Series that season.
The Georgia native also spent one season with the Chicago Cubs. The team posted its condolences on X, writing: "The entire Cubs organization expresses their condolences to the friends and family of former Cub Terrance Gore."
