Father Of Yankees' Anthony Volpe Unloads On Mets Fan During Subway Series

The Subway Series just got a little more personal. Michael Volpe, father of New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe, made headlines of his own over the weekend after a video surfaced showing him trading profanities with a Mets fan at Citi Field.

The clip, which began circulating on TikTok and spread quickly across social media Sunday, captured Michael unloading a flurry of F-bombs in defense of his son, and reigniting the always-heated Yankees-Mets rivalry in the stands.

It's unclear which game the confrontation occurred in, as the crosstown foes met Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. But there's no doubt that things got spicy. In the video, Michael can be heard shouting "F— you!" at a Mets fan seated a few rows in front of him, accusing the fan of "badmouthing my son" during the exchange. It didn't take long for the moment to go viral.

Anthony Volpe, the second-year shortstop and 2023 Gold Glove winner, played in all three weekend games, going 2-for-11 with a solo homer in Saturday's loss. He also had a brief lowlight when an errant throw hit teammate Aaron Judge in the face. Volpe is batting just .219 on the season, a dip that likely hasn't gone unnoticed by fans. Or hecklers.

Still, the 23-year-old has had his moments. In May, he rattled off a 21-game hitting streak, the longest by a Yankee in more than a decade, and he remains a key piece of the team's future. Last October, he starred in the postseason and delivered a grand slam in Game 4 of the World Series.

Drafted in the first round in 2019, Volpe's already earned Gold Glove honors and carved out a role as the Yankees' everyday shortstop. Now, thanks to Dad, the family's also carved out a place in Subway Series lore, though probably not the way they intended.
