The birth just happened a bit earlier than they expected, which he revealed with a post on X. He also posted a photo on Instagram that showed him holding the newborn while his wife, Thayer, leaned on his shoulder.

"Just in absolute awe of the Lord and how he provides," Weathers wrote on Instagram. "(Thayer) you are an absolute rockstar we love our little man Paul David Weathers."
The Yankees, as expected, put Weathers on the paternity list ahead of Wednesday's game, an eventual 4-1 win over the rival Red Sox. The team recalled right-handed pitcher Jake Bird from the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre roster.
Paul David is the first child for the couple, who exchanged vows in 2022. They previously announced in December 2025 that they were expecting with a post on Instagram.
Thayer's post announcing the pregnancy featured her and the Yankees pitcher posing together in a field. Some photos featured them wearing all black. Others had them wearing fancy coats. They clutched their ultrasound photos while posing.
"Our favorite gift wasn't under the tree this year," Thayer wrote. "In a season centered around the miraculous birth of our Savior and His promise fulfilled, what a joy and honor it has been to be growing and carrying new life.
"Thank you Jesus for the highest honor bestowed upon us, parents to our sweet baby."
Weathers, a Tennessee native, is currently in his first season with the Yankees. He has started five games and posted a win-loss record of 1-2 while striking out 36 batters.
Weathers spent the first two pro seasons of his career (2021-2022) with the Padres. He then split the 2023 season between the Padres and Marlins. He remained with the Marlins in 2024 and 2025.
