The former two-division UFC champion announced on social media that the procedure was successful after tearing the ACL and meniscus in his right knee during his bout against Max Holloway at UFC 329.
"Surgery went excellent," McGregor wrote. "I am confident."
McGregor's highly anticipated comeback lasted just 69 seconds before the fight was stopped after he injured his knee in the opening moments.
The injury marked another setback for the 38-year-old, who also tore the ACL in the same knee during his first meeting with Holloway in 2013. McGregor recovered from that injury and returned to competition less than a year later.
Now, the former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion is hoping history repeats itself.
According to TMZ Sports, McGregor remains optimistic about returning to the Octagon next summer for what would be the final fight under his current UFC contract.
The Irish superstar has endured multiple major injuries during the latter stages of his career, but his latest update suggested his focus has already shifted from surgery to rehabilitation.
At the moment, though, McGregor faces months of recovery before he can begin preparing for another return to the UFC.
