Former two-time UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir finally got what he's been asking for: His release from the UFC.

Mir took to his personal Twitter account to reveal the news Saturday afternoon.
Mir, one of the UFC's biggest heavyweight stars in the last decade, hasn't competed since being suspended by the MMA promotion for two years.

Since being suspended after his fight with Hunt, Mir has wanted his release and maintained that the suspension, the maximum punishment possible, shouldn't have happened. Mir has even suggested him eating kangaroo meat at one point may have caused the positive test.
Mir ends his UFC run with a solid 16-11 record along with competing in memorable matches against the likes of Brock Lesnar and Mark Hunt.
Mir is now free to compete for organizations and promotions that don't follow the USDA's rules and oversight.
