It was a tough night for Maycee Barber, and a scary one.

Barber was taken to a local hospital after a brutal first-round loss to Alexa Grasso at UFC Seattle. The finish came fast and hard, with Grasso landing a clean shot that twisted Barber around and dropped her to the canvas.
Barber was already out before the follow-up even landed. The referee stepped in immediately as Grasso briefly looked for a choke.
What followed was unsettling. Barber grabbed at the ref instinctively, then rolled over and stayed down for several minutes as medical staff rushed in. She eventually sat up and was able to leave the cage under her own power before heading to the hospital.

The early updates have been encouraging. In an Instagram video Barber told fans she is "OK", though she doesn't remember much of the fight and has clear wounds from the fight on her face.
It's a tough setback. Barber had just returned from a long layoff tied to previous medical issues, including a frightening backstage incident last year. She picked up a win in December and entered this rematch with momentum.
That momentum is gone for now. The focus shifts to recovery first. The comeback can wait.
