Woman is furious after controversial penalty costs her a $1 million prize

Just brutal.

It's relatively rare in a typical football game for one kickoff to be returned for a touchdown, much less two. That's what made Safeway/Sobeyys $1,000,000 Touchdown to Win contest — where a lucky fan would win the prize if two kickoffs were returned for a touchdown — so unique.

Thursday night, Karen Kuldys was 25 yards from the life-changing prize. That was until a bogus call eight yards behind the ball carrier brought back the touchdown, and removed the thought of $1 million from Kuldys and her husband's minds.

"My heart just sank and I thought, 'Oh my God, how close could I get to $1 million,'" the Winnipeg resident said, per CBC. "You got to be kidding me. My stomach is in knots just thinking about it right now."

Her husband, apparently a diehard CFL fan, anticipated the league announcing it was a bad call, but unfortunately it won't bring them the money:

"The league is going to say they made a bad call, but that doesn't bring us our $1 million."

As somewhat of a concession, she did win a $25,000 entertainment system after the first score as part of the same contest.
