Joey Chestnut Sets New World Record Eating 83 Hot Dogs Vs. Rival Kobayashi In Netflix Hot Dog Contest

Regarded as the "world's best eater," Joey Chestnut ate 83 hot dogs during a Labor Day hot dog eating contest that was aired on Netflix.

Hosted by Rob Riggle and Nikki Garcia, the highly anticipated event, which had been years in the making, was streamed from HyperX Arena in Las Vegas, featuring two of the best eaters in the world.

Chestnut's longtime rival Takeru Kobayashi, 46, was his challenger for the "Unfinished Beef" live event, and the Japanese competitive eater was able to eat 67 hot dogs, which probably could beat almost anyone else on this planet, except for the world record holder.

To note, after eating 83, Chestnut at 40 years old beat his own record, that previously was 76 hot dogs (2021 Nathan's contest).

The Nagano, Japan native stated, "I feel like I did everything I could."

That is to say, Kobayashi, who announced his retirement earlier this year due to wanting to focus on his health, did actually also beat his own personal best of 64.5 hot dogs, which he ate back in 2009. However, ultimately it wasn't enough.

"I've been trying to hit 80 hot dogs for years," Chestnut said after the win.

"Without Kobayashi, I was never able to do it. He drives me. We weren't always nice to each other, but I love what he can do. We push each other to be our best."

To point out, during the early 2000's Kobayashi was known as the best, winning the annual Nathan's hot dog contest six straight years (2001-2006). Nevertheless, shortly after coming onto the scene, Chestnut took over and became the face of the sport, winning 16 times over a 17-year span.

Unfortunately, as some might know, he was not allowed to participate this year after being banned due to a sponsorship conflict, since Chestnut has a partnership deal with Impossible Foods. As a result, this means someone else could claim the 2024 title; Patrick Bertoletti was able to win with 58 hot dogs eaten in 10 minutes.
