Two girls' high-school basketball seasons got cancelled after nasty fight broke out

Yikes. This was the scene from a girls basketball game in Indiana between Pike and Ben Davis last Saturday. Following the incident,  the Indiana High School Athletic Association's commissioner Bobby Cox announced that both teams' seasons would be cancelled for the entirety of 2016. He released a statement following the events:

"I am deeply saddened by the events of Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Ben Davis High School." Cox said in a statement.  This unfortunate episode between these two schools in no manner reflects the pride and tradition of their respective girls basketball programs, yet an egregious and dangerous event has transpired which calls for swift, stern and consistent correction.  The IHSAA takes no pleasure in the issuance of these sanctions, nevertheless remains staunchly committed to proper sportsmanship and decorum in the interscholastic athletic setting," stated Commissioner Cox.

Cox also listed sanctions, which included a cancellation of the contest that ended in the brawl, the requirement of both student-athletes and coaches to take online behavioral and sportsmanship courses, and probation for both programs during the 2016-17 seasons.
