We now know the identity of the man who police say killed five officers in Dallas

He claimed to be a U.S. Army vet.

According to CBS News, the suspected shooter who killed five police officers and wounded others on Thursday night has been identified.

Micah Xavier Johnson, 25, has been identified as the primary suspect who told police he acted alone and was not affiliated with any organization.

"We were able to take out one of the suspects, who had been cornered in the garage, with an explosive device," Mayor Mike Rawlings said Friday morning.

"We've got other possible suspects that we're interviewing. They're not being real cooperative at this point."

According to authorities, Johnson claimed he set out to kill white people, especially white cops.

Photos that circulated on Twitter following the breaking news appear to portray Johnson as a current or retired member of the United States Army.

"Law enforcement official tells CBS News Dallas cop killer Micah Xavier Johnson claimed to be a US Army Veteran," David Begnaud of CBS reported.

CNN later reported that the Pentagon confirmed the shooter served in the U.S. Army Reserve

Police have yet to verify that these photos circulating on Twitter show Johnson during his Army Reserve days.
