Former Indiana point guard Yogi Ferrell has participated in only 14 NBA games, including only four with the Dallas Mavericks. However, the 6-foot, 180-pound guard did more than enough during a 10-day pact with the Mavs to secure a long-term deal and Dallas has reportedly rewarded the rookie with two years of financial security.

Ferrell made a big-time impression in his first three games with the Mavs, averaging 13.0 points, 5.0 assists and 2.3 steals per game in 37.0 minutes per contest. However, the big splash arrived on Friday evening, when Ferrell put together a massive effort while leading Dallas to a fourth consecutive victory.
The Mavericks prevailed over the Portland Trail Blazers by a four-point margin and Ferrell was, without qualification, the best player on the court. He produced 32 points (on 11 of 17 shooting with 9 of 11 from three-point range) and five assists in 39 minutes, making the move for Dallas to lock him up long-term a very obvious decision.
It remains to be seen if Yogi Ferrell can sustain anything approaching the torrid pace that he is on to begin his career in Dallas, but the organization has hitched its wagon to the former Big Ten standout and it is easy to see why they became believers in short order.
