The former first overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft sustained a knee injury during Saturday night's 112-96 win over the Nuggets. Sources told ESPN's Shams Charania that Edwards hyper-extended his left knee and suffered a bone bruise.

However, testing ruled out any ligament damage, so he avoided far more significant issues.

The injury occurred as Edwards went up to block a shot during the second quarter. As he landed back on the court, his left knee bent awkwardly. He immediately crumpled to the court in pain.

He had to receive assistance as he headed back to the locker room as he could not put weight on his left leg.

Reserve guard Ayo Dosunmu replaced Edwards in the lineup for the rest of the game. He contributed 43 points during the decisive victory, which gave the Timberwolves a 3-1 advantage in the series.

The recovery timeline remains murky. Charania indicated that the guard could miss at least a portion of the next round of the playoffs, provided the Timberwolves eliminate the Nuggets and advance.

The Timberwolves also lost another member of the team due to injury. Starting guard Donte DiVincenzo tore his Achilles, which ended his season.

This opening round series will continue on Monday, April 27, in Denver, Colorado. If the Nuggets win, the series will then continue on Thursday, April 30. If the Timberwolves win on Monday, they will eliminate the Nuggets and advance in the playoffs.

Edwards has spent his entire six-year career with the Timberwolves while starting 423 of the 442 games in which he has played. He has earned All-Star honors the last four seasons, and he has nailed 45.3% of his shots from the floor.
