Rough Start in South Beach
This news couldn't come at a worse time for Miami as the team looks to improve on their mediocre start during a six-game road trip. They were 3-5 prior to their loss against the Denver Nuggets on Friday, a game that saw Butler get hurt and take an early leave.
Losing such a significant member of your squad can be challenging enough before you factor in the identity crisis that ensues with it. Jimmy Butler is, of course, one of the most dynamic two-way stars the league has to offer and it's no secret how impactful his play can be to the Heat's energy and productivity. However, the start of this season shows a Miami squad seemingly losing the plot when it comes to dominating both sides of the ball, ranking 15th in offensive rating and 19th in defensive rating.
Miami Promises to Get Better Despite the Loss of Butler
For all the uncertainty about the return of their perennial All-star, several Heat players and coaching staff have voiced the importance of getting better in the face of adversity.
"It's always next-man-up mentality," Heat guard Tyler Herro said after Friday's loss when asked about the possibility of having to play without Butler. "But we've dealt with injuries and different guys being out, me being one of them. It's always a next-man-up mentality."
Miami heads into Detroit in the kickoff for this season's Emirates NBA Cup.
