Derrick Rose's No. 1 Jersey to be Retired by the Chicago Bulls in 2025-26

The Chicago Bulls revealed that Derrick Rose's No. 1 jersey will be retired at some point during the 2025-26 season. The Bulls made the announcement on Saturday ahead of their "Derrick Rose Night" celebration, which will take place before and during their matchup with the New York Knicks.

Derrick Rose, a Chicago native, was selected No. 1 overall by the Bulls in the 2008 NBA Draft. He won Rookie of the Year honors in 2009 and went on to win league MVP two years later, becoming the youngest player in NBA history to do so.

This Day Has Been a Long Time Coming

Incidentally, Rose expressed how he would love to see his jersey retired during an interview with ESPN on Thursday. He believes that along with his other accolades, it would cement his place in league history.

"That would be my way of getting close to the Top 75, and I'm only saying that because it relates to the MVP," Rose said. "It's only a handful, a small group that got that trophy back there. And to think that way of playing, the Chicago way of playing, is not in that 75, it makes you think about it a little bit or question it a little bit."

Rose Pleads with Chicago Owners to Not Make a Statue

For all his hopes about seeing his jersey hanging in United Center, the league's youngest MVP did object to one tradition that's become common.

"The statues, the way people been creating the statues, no, I do not want no statue," Rose told ESPN.

Rose was seemingly addressing fellow Chicago-native Dwyane Wade's odd-looking statue, which received much criticism after the Miami Heat's unveiling in October.

Rose made it clear to the Bulls that there was no need to consider a similar honor for him.

"Jerry [Reinsdorf], no statue. Please, Michael [Reinsdorf], no statue."
