Temperatures are already seeming to heat up for Draymond Green after he got into an exchange with a reporter on Monday.
Draymond Went Back and Forth With The Media
The 4x NBA champion attended the Golden State Warriors media day to answer questions about his team's upcoming season and expectations. During his Q & A a reporter suggested that people were "worried" about Green and that apparently did not sit well with him.
"Why are they worried about me?" Green asked. "I am a successful Black man in America doing incredibly well. What's the worry about?"
Green said that he's doing "pretty well" for himself considering his bacjground, explaining that "there are way more people in this world to worry about."
The reporter tried to clarify that he meant fans are worried about his focus and availability for games, saying they knew the team needed him but "didn't know if [Green] would be here."
"I'm here, I've been here for 13 years now," Green emphatically replied. "Been here pretty much every night for 13 years."
Green's History May Be Liability For Warriors
Draymond Green has in fact spent his 13-year career with the Golden State Warriors, but it hasn't been without setbacks and slip ups. Last year alone he was suspended twice for two separate occurrences. The first was handed out after Green choked out Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert, and the second came after he hit Phoenix Suns center Jusuf Nurkic in the face.
After the second offense, which resulted in a 12-game suspension, head coach Steve Kerr spoke on his star' situation, claiming this time should be different.
"I think it's an opportunity for Draymond to step away and to make a change in his approach and his life and that's not an easy thing to do," he said. "Because [the guy] who grabbed Rudy, choked Rudy, the one who took a wild flail at Jusuf, the one who punched Jordan [Poole] last year, that's the guy who has to change and he knows that."
