Boston Celtics guard Derrick White opened up about the altercation he was involvded in during Colorado football's rivalry game vs. Colorado State earlier this month.
Derrick White Regrets Getting Involved in Scuffle
During the Celtics Media Day on Tuesday, White gave an update on his condition before dwelling on what he described as an "unfortunate" situation.
"My teeth are getting better," he revealed from the podium. "Had to go to the dentist on a Friday and got three root canals so that was fun.
He continued: "Honestly, the Colorado situation is unfortunate. Never thought I'd be in that situation... I didn't actually get hit, he just hit my hat off. Shouldn't have been there."
White, a University of Colorado alumni, was in attendance for their rivalry game on September 14 when he reportedly got into a "verbal spat" with some CSU fans. Video obtained by TMZ shows a fan swinging their arm at the Celtics guard so hard that his hat came flying off. Visibly upset, White looks to continue the scuffle before several fans and law enforcement stepped in.
CSU later admitted that they were aware of White's role in the viral clip, yet no official police report was filed in relation to the incident. Furthermore, they claim that no injuries had been reported in connection with any potential crowd disturbance during the game.
White Wants to Be in Boston
Fisticuffs aside, Derrick White has had some notable highs this offseason. He won gold with the US Men's Basketball team at this year's Olympics just weeks after win Celtics won the NBA Championship. As if that weren't sweet enough, White and Boston agreed to a four-year contract worth almost $126 million back in July. He explained his decision to return during Celtics Media Day.
"I've seen saying since I've been here that I didn't want to go nowhere else," White said. "I love playing for this organization with this team, this coaching staff, and for these fans. I was super excited for (the extension) to get done, especially early in the Summer, so I didn't have to answer all the questions about it. I love being here. Me and family are excited to be here for a while."
