Eve Wembanyama Stole the Show From Her Brother at the NBA Draft

Victor Wembanyama was drafted No. 1 overall by the San Antonio Spurs, but the internet can't stop talking about his sister.

The 2023 NBA Draft on Thursday night produced two stars in the Wembanyama family. There's Victor, who was drafted No. 1 overall by the San Antonio Spurs, and then his sister Eve, who caught the attention of viewers across the country.

Fans, scouts and anyone else who evaluates NBA talent widely consider Victor to be the key to reviving the Spurs' glory days. Yet somehow, his sister stole the spotlight from her 7-foot-5 sibling. Anytime a woman the general public doesn't know surfaces on television, people on social media tend to make comments, jokes, and more—and Eve's on-air appearance during the draft was no exception.

Eve commented to ESPN on her brother's draft selection as Victor composed himself; he was emotional after the selection was finalized.

"It's amazing; we are all so proud," she said. "We are so happy for you; we are happy for the family, friends, everything for basketball — it is so amazing."

While Eve earned attention at the NBA Draft because of her looks, she's an accomplished basketball player in her own right. Standing over six feet tall, she played for the Monaco Basketball Association in France, the FIBA U16 Women's European Championship, and the FIBA U20 Women's European Challengers.

Regardless of the internet response, the Wembanyamas seem to be a tight-knit crew, as evidenced by her Instagram postings. And their family has a lot to celebrate following Victor's draft selection — including, apparently, Eve's newfound internet fame.
