Glen ‘Big Baby’ Davis Gets 3.5 Years In Jail For Insurance Fraud

Former NBA player Glen Davis, or as many know him as 'Big Baby,' has been sentenced to 40 months of prison time, plus three years of supervised release, as ordered by a federal judge Thursday.

To note, Davis was actually facing up to 20 years in jail, as he was convicted in November 2023 for being involved in a scheme that defrauded the NBA's healthcare plan out of $5 million. To point out, there were as many as 20 players that were found guilty of filling out false reimbursement medical claims to the league's players' health and welfare benefit plan.

To clarify, Davis and other convicted players made fraudulent invoices for procedures they never got done. As reported Davis made $132,000 worth of claims, with the notable one in the case including him saying that he had $27,200 of dental work done, however at the time, October 2019, his cell phone location was actually tracked by authorities to him being in Las Vegas and not Beverly Hills, which is where the invoice was made.

So basically the NBA's health and welfare benefit plan was paying for medical care and procedures that were never actually performed.

Another notable NBA player convicted included Will Bynum, who played for the Detroit Pistons for six seasons. The former NBA guard was sentenced to 18 months in prison just last month, for also making false medical claim statements.

Davis and Bynum were both in on it, but the ringleader of the $5 million defrauding scheme was former first-round draft pick, Terrence Williams. Being that, Williams got 10 years in prison and was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $2,500,000. Bynum was ordered to pay $183,000 in restitution, while Davis has to give back $80,000.

Other former NBA players who have been accused include the following: Shannon Brown, Tony Allen, Jamario Moon, Tony Wroten, Melvin Ely, Ruben Patterson, and Darius Miles.

Davis, 38, played eight seasons in the NBA, as a member of the Celtics (won championship- 2008), Magic, and Clippers. Throughout his career, the power forward averaged, 8.0 points and 4.4 rebounds in 21.1 minutes per game.

When tallying up Davis' career earnings, he accumulated $34,716,665. To note, as a part of the supervised release, he will have to attend a financial management class.
