Golden State Warriors HC Steve Kerr will return to coaching on Friday night

Steve Kerr took an indefinite leave of absence from the team in October after back surgery complications.

He's back. After missing 43 days of coaching the Golden State Warriors due to complications from back surgery, head coach Steve Kerr will be back on the Warriors' bench on Friday night. Kerr had back surgery in the offseason to repair a ruptured disk in his spine. The Warriors announced that he would be taking an indefinite leave of absence in October.

While Kerr has been recovering, lead assistant coach Luke Walton has been acting head coach. Walton helped guide the Warriors to a 39-4 record, which equals the second-best record through 43 games in NBA history (trailing only the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls at 40-3).  Walton was named NBA Coach of the Month in November as the Warriors began the season with 24-consecutive victories, the most wins ever to start a season in professional team sports.

Kerr and the Golden State Warriors take on the Indiana Pacers from Oracle Arena Friday night at 10:30 p.m. EST, which will air on ESPN.
