"We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of Brandon Clarke," the Grizzlies said in a statement. "Brandon was an outstanding teammate and an even better person whose impact on the organization and the greater Memphis community will not be forgotten. We express our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time."
Clarke spent his entire seven-year NBA career with Memphis after being selected with the 21st overall pick in the 2019 draft. He quickly became a key contributor, earning NBA All-Rookie First Team honors in his debut season.
Over his career, Clarke averaged 10.2 points and 5.5 rebounds, providing energy, defense and versatility off the bench and in the starting lineup. He was among the longest-tenured players on the roster.
"In one of the most difficult days for our league, we are devastated to learn of the passing of Brandon Clarke," NBA commissioner Adam Silver said in a statement. "He was a beloved teammate and leader who played the game with enormous passion and grit. Our thoughts and sympathies are with Brandon's family, friends and the Grizzlies organization."
Clarke appeared in just two games last season due to injuries.
