J.R. Smith's latest chapter is not on a golf course.

The former NBA guard was arrested in Hunt County, Texas, and booked on a charge of assault causing bodily injury — family violence, according to jail records first reported by TMZ.
Smith, 41, remains in the Hunt County Detention Center. Records show no bond has been set.
The circumstances of the arrest have not been detailed publicly. TMZ reported officers flagged the vehicle he was driving after an automatic license plate reader alerted them to an active warrant.
Smith has not issued a public comment.
He last played in the NBA during the 2020 bubble with the Lakers, winning a second championship four years after the Cavaliers title in 2016. He later enrolled at North Carolina A&T, walked onto the golf team, and graduated in May with a degree in Liberal Studies.
This is not his first trip through the justice system. He served jail time after a 2007 reckless-driving case that involved a fatal crash, and he has had other run-ins over the years.
Today, the only official record is the charge, the mugshot, and a holding cell in North Texas.
