According to ESPN's Shams Charania, sources say that point guard Jalen Brunson underwent surgery on his left wrist on Tuesday. This addresses an injury that he played through during the later stages of the 2025-26 NBA season.
Brunson is expected to be ready for basketball activities later this summer, putting him on track to suit up for the start of the season and other key dates on the schedule. This includes the Emirates NBA Cup 2026, which begins on Oct. 30.
A second-round pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, Brunson made a major impact during the Knicks' run to its first championship in 53 years. He started 19 games and went 16-3 as a starter. He scored 539 total points while completing 46.5% of his free throws.
The final five games of the season — the NBA Finals series against the Spurs — featured Brunson averaging 32.6 points, 4.6 assists, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.0 steals. The Knicks won the title after going 4-1 in the final series.
Brunson also set a Knicks record during the final game of the NBA Finals, a 94-90 win. He scored 45 points, 48% of his team's total. This helped him secure NBA Finals MVP honors. The 11 voters unanimously selected Brunson.
"Words can't describe it, but I'll say I put a lot of time and effort into trying to be the best player I can be to try and help a team win," Brunson said after accepting the award.
"Just really thankful to have the organization, the coaching staff, my teammates, to have my back every single day. I think that means the most to me. And my family."
A former Dallas Mavericks draft pick, Brunson joined the New York Knicks in 2022 after signing a four-year, $104 million deal. He then signed a four-year, $156.5 million veteran contract extension in 2024.
