James Harden already reportedly tried to get rid of Dwight early in their partnership, but it seems he was the one behind the scenes trying to get rid of him at this year's trade deadline as well. Apparently, Harden was also the one behind the Kevin McHale firing. Ken Berger of CBSSports.com found out some of the backstory to the firing:
Multiple league sources told CBS Sports that Harden pushed management to dump McHale, and has since angled for the Rockets to trade Howard. Rockets GM Daryl Morey delivered on the first demand, but was unable to find a suitable deal for Howard at the trade deadline this month.
"It's really bad for the locker room dynamic," a person familiar with the situation told CBS Sports. "If everybody knows that James Harden can fire you or trade you, are you going to pass the ball to Dwight or are you going to pass the ball to James Harden?"
So general manager Daryl Morey and the Rockets owner Leslie Alexander are cool with Harden running this operation then? That sounds like a horrific recipe for all kinds of disaster. That's basically what happened with Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic and the team is still recovering from that mess. How are more Rockets fans not mad about this?
