Joe Mazzulla Suggests New Rules For NBA to Implement

Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla offered some thought provoking takes on the NBA's rules during an interview.

Mazzulla Wants More Fighting

Mazzulla was asked about the changes he would implement in the league while sitting with Boston radio. He went into detail about power plays after fouls, saying that the NBA, "should have a power play." Like hockey, the offending team would be forced to play a man down for a considerable amount of time.

Then, the Celtics head coach made an interesting suggestion to shake up the league.

"The biggest thing we've robbed people of from an entertainment standpoint is you can't fight anymore," he said. "What's more entertaining than a little scuffle? How come in baseball they're allowed to clear the benches. How come in hockey they're allowed to—I don't understand. I just don't get why some sports are allowed to clear the benches, they have bats and weapons, we don't. We have a ball."

Mazzulla is Not Your Average Coach

Joe Mazzulla's short career as Boston Celtics head coach has been nothing less than entertaining for fans. His unorthodox style has been a bit of a running gag in the league as of late, with his mind-boggling postgame pressers always seeming to get a laugh out of fans and league officials alike.

Just this past Monday, Mazzulla was asked about star player Jayson Tatum receiving a technical foul in the Celtics matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks. The head coach picked up a delay-of-game tech of his own for barking at the referees all night, and he seemed proud of it.

"I mean, I like yelling at those guys, too. So, I'm certainly not gonna stop [Jayson] from doing it. But if he stops executing our system and our defense, that's when it becomes more of an issue. But I think he kind of stayed there most of the time."
