Kyrie Irving Compares Durant to 'a Monument in a Museum'

It's certainly no small matter and will surely put Durant in elite company, cementing his legacy among the league's greatest. Though anybody who knows the 2x Finals MVP can tell you how stats can't encapsulate how truly exceptional he is. Anybody like his former teammate Kyrie Irving, who earlier this week spoke about Durant breaking 30K and how glad he was to be a small part of that legacy.

"It's an incredible accomplishment, but I think it shows the beauty of this game," Irving said via Joey Mistretta of ClutchPoints. "When you just stay consistent in your craft, when you're talking about a guy who dealt with a torn Achilles and he's still getting better at his age. To be able to share the court with him was special.

The Dallas guard later highlighted Durant's contributions to the game and how younger players view him as an example of good basketball.

"He's that guy that you see almost like a monument in a science museum of just like, what does a great scorer look like? Seven feet, able to handle the ball, able to shoot over anybody, but also a fierce competitor."

Irving's sentiments echo what many across the league will likely express as Durant reaches this monumental scoring mark. He will become just the eighth player in NBA history to do so, joining legendary names like MJ, LeBron, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain and Kobe.
