Ana Montana, the model and longtime partner of Timberwolves guard LaMelo Ball, was arrested Monday in North Carolina on charges involving prescriptions for a controlled substance.

Montana, whose legal name is Analicia Chaves, faces two felony counts of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud or forgery and two misdemeanor counts of simple possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance, according to booking and court records reported by TMZ. She was held on a $20,000 bond in connection with the felony charges.
An arrest warrant alleges that Chaves obtained alprazolam, the generic form of Xanax, from a Walgreens pharmacy using prescriptions associated with a doctor's allegedly stolen registration and provider identification numbers. The alleged conduct dates to Feb. 21. A warrant was issued Sept. 22, six days before her arrest.
Her lawyer challenged the suggestion that Chaves herself created a fraudulent prescription. In a statement to TMZ, the attorney said the charges allege that a doctor using fraudulent credentials prescribed the medication to her and that she filled that prescription at a pharmacy. The lawyer said the misdemeanor counts appear to stem from her possession of the medication she received there.
That account is the defense's description of the allegations. The charges have not been decided in court, and an arrest does not establish that Chaves committed a crime.
Chaves and Ball welcomed a son, LaOne, in January and publicly announced his birth in May. Ball was traded from the Hornets to the Timberwolves in this past NBA offseason.
The case concerns Chaves. TMZ's report does not allege that Ball was involved.
