LeBron James Allegedly Thinks the Lakers Are 'Taking Him for Granted' Ahead of Free Agency

LeBron James is weighing his future with the Los Angeles Lakers, and the tone coming out of L.A. might matter as much as anything on a contract.

According to ESPN, there's been some friction behind the scenes. One moment that stuck out. A historic game ball was given to the coach instead of LeBron. That didn't sit well.

It wasn't just that.

ESPN sources say there's been a lingering feeling from James' side that the organization has been nudging things toward Luka Doncic as the future. Not surprising. Still, it hasn't exactly gone unnoticed.

At one point this season, James reportedly left the arena without even changing after a game, frustrated with how things were being handled.

Then came the internal stuff.

Team officials, per ESPN, went as far as discussing LeBron's "market value" during games, treating him like an anonymous player. Numbers floated ranged from midlevel exception territory up into the $20-30 million range.

For a player still producing at an All-Star level, that's going to raise eyebrows.

Which brings this back to the bigger point.

"The Lakers can't just offer James a number. They have to offer a why behind that number," one agent told ESPN.

That's the key. LeBron isn't just deciding if he wants to play another season. He's deciding if he believes in the direction, the role, the respect that comes with it.

There's still a path forward.

A source told ESPN that James loves being in L.A. That hasn't changed. When asked directly, he downplayed any tension.

"There's no static from me," he said.

Maybe not publicly. But behind the scenes, this feels like a situation where the message will matter just as much as the money.
