LeBron James Sets Another All-Time NBA Record

LeBron James continues to set records while playing for the Los Angeles Lakers. This time, he has passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

The veteran player entered a game against the Denver Nuggets needing three field goals to set the all-time record. He nailed them during the first quarter. The record-setter, in particular, happened with 12.3 seconds remaining in the quarter.

James hit a fadeaway jumper against the Nuggets to make the score 22-32. He then backpedaled his way down the court while the fans and announcers went wild. He added four more before falling hard to the floor and hurting his elbow.

The Los Angeles Lakers player now has 15,842 successful field goals in his record-setting career. He has attempted 31,285 in his career, also the most in NBA history.

James is one of only two players in NBA history to score at least 15,000 field goals. Abdul-Jabbar is the other. They are two of only four players to nail at least 12,500 field goals.

James drew closer to this record with some standout seasons. He led the league in successful field goals five different times. He had 795 in 2004, 794 in 2007, 758 in 2010, 765 in 2012, and 857 in 2017.

The future Hall of Famer has a chance to extend his record, provided he can get back into the lineup. He has not played since hitting the floor — and a cameraman's foot — against the Nuggets. He continues to deal with a left elbow contusion and arthritis in his left foot.

"We'll see what happens over the next couple of days," James said after the loss to the Nuggets. "Hopefully, I'll wake up and it doesn't feel too much worse than it is now.

"Or if it feels better, that would be great. So it's day-to-day. We'll see what happens."

The Lakers, who are 12-7 without James in the lineup, turned to Rui Hachimura as the injury replacement for James during wins over the Pacers and Knicks.

The next game for the Lakers will take place on March 10. The team will host the Timberwolves in Los Angeles. Then on Thursday, the Lakers will host the Bulls.
