LeBron James may have just two realistic options left as he searches for the final stop of his legendary NBA career.

According to The Athletic insider Nick Friedell, the race for James has essentially become a two-team battle between the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
"It's about a 50/50 right now," Friedell said on 95.7 The Game. "It's Golden State and Cleveland. I just don't see another team that makes that much sense."
James recently informed the Lakers he will not return for the 2026-27 season, ending an eight-year run in Los Angeles and sending the NBA rumor mill into overdrive.
While several teams were initially linked to the four-time MVP, Friedell believes the list has now narrowed considerably.
Golden State offers an intriguing championship opportunity. James already has a well-established relationship with Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and coach Steve Kerr after years of competing against them and teaming up to win Olympic gold in Paris.
Friedell also pointed to the Warriors' organizational culture as a major selling point.
"LeBron is looking for basketball happiness at the end," Friedell said. "There's no better place to do that than here."
Of course, Cleveland has something Golden State can't match.
The Cavaliers are where James began his NBA career in 2003 and where he returned to deliver the franchise's first championship in 2016. A second homecoming would bring his remarkable career full circle while giving the Eastern Conference contender another proven superstar.
James' longtime agent, Rich Paul, recently said the four-time NBA champion is prioritizing "complete happiness" over money as he weighs his next move.
If Friedell's assessment proves accurate, that search may ultimately come down to two franchises that have already played major roles in James' Hall of Fame career.
