Jordan surprised his former teacher, Ms. Etta, with a video call while she receives hospice care at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in his hometown of Wilmington, North Carolina, as relayed by PEOPLE.

According to staff members, Ms. Etta often mentioned Jordan while reflecting on favorite memories and former students from her time at Laney High School, where Jordan starred before becoming an NBA legend.

After several unsuccessful attempts to contact him, a social worker named Wendy reportedly received a surprise phone call from an unknown number.

"Is this Ms. Etta?" the caller asked, according to Wilmington television station WECT. It was Jordan himself.

Wendy, who was at home when the call came in, immediately drove to Ms. Etta so the two could speak.

"They laughed, reminisced, picked at each other, and shared a moment that brought tears to everyone in the room," Lower Cape Fear LifeCare staff told the station.

A video shared by the outlet showed Jordan smiling during the FaceTime conversation as Ms. Etta relaxed on a couch surrounded by loved ones.

The moment quickly resonated online, with many praising Jordan for taking time to reconnect with someone from his early years.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest players in basketball history, Jordan won six NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls and finished his career with a perfect 6-0 record in the NBA Finals.

Jordan has also remained heavily involved in charitable efforts in North Carolina. In recent years, he partnered with Novant Health to help fund multiple family medical clinics in Wilmington and previously made a record-setting $10 million donation to Make-A-Wish Foundation.
