The Milwaukee Bucks are taking calls on Giannis Antetokounmpo ahead of the draft, and the message around the league is pretty clear. Everything is on the table.
That doesn't guarantee a deal gets done. It does tell you where this is headed.
Milwaukee's stance hasn't changed much. If a team wants Giannis, it's going to cost a lot. Think young cornerstone talent, multiple first-round picks, or both.
From Giannis' side, the tone also sounds familiar. He has signaled for a while that it may be time for a new chapter, and NBA sources tell ESPN that feeling hasn't shifted.
Ownership isn't dragging this out either.
Co-owner Jimmy Haslam said a decision is coming before the draft. Stay and sign an extension, or get traded. Those are the two paths.
That puts a clock on everything.
The backdrop matters here. Milwaukee missed the playoffs, snapped a long run of contention, and made a coaching change. This is not the same situation it was a couple years ago.
At the same time, the Bucks are not closing the door on keeping him. They still have assets, including a top-10 pick, and could try to reshape the roster one more time to convince him to stay.
Around the league, teams are lining up. Contenders and big-market clubs are expected to check in. The usual suspects. The kind of teams that believe they are one move away.
The biggest factor might be Giannis himself. Where he wants to go. Where he's willing to commit long term.
That tends to decide everything in situations like this.
Either way, it's talk. But perhaps serious talk.
